Read-a-Thon

BLC's major fund-raiser is the annual Read-a-Thon. Held each Fall, this reading marathon takes place at Safeway supermarket on Mangrove Avenue in Chico. Local residents volunteer for blocks of time to read aloud selections from favorite novelists, ports, or their own works. Readers are of all ages and from various walks of life. Students, professionals, homemakers, retirees, and teachers participate to share their pleasure in reading and to obtain funds to support the council's programs.

VCR

Volunteer Community Readers meet at adult care facilities to read aloud to and visit with the residents.

Juvenile Hall Donations

In December, BLC wraps and delivers new books for each person spending the holidays in Juvenile Hall in addition to reading materials donations during the year.
